One ...Other than all of the things that you stated. One of the biggest issues I think with Cataclysm is it set an weird tone for the game. As you level a new character you have deathwing come and destroy all the things around you making you be aware of his presence. Then you continue on and the story turns from "Deathwing is going to destroy us all!" to randomly being we need you in outlands. With them reworking part of the beginning of the game and not the whole thing to make sense it is like me rewriting the first 2 chapters of a horror and giving it a brand new villain and characters but never changing the last 20 that refer to the old characters. With that being said they missed out on all of the other opportunities to give deathwing more of a plot since they had to start working people towards going to outlands. Although I personally think if deathwing was so big and bad he honestly should have affected EVERYWHERE. Oh wait he did it's just instanced for 85's and imaginary to everyone else.justproud2bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17136853942261159472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5803602506925287061.post-60794588898197522022012-04-28T14:02:16.059-07:002012-04-28T14:02:16.059-07:00Great article, and exactly what I feel, though I a...Great article, and exactly what I feel, though I also feel that one point is missing.

Deathwing didn't have an impact. Whaddaya mean Deathwing didn't have an impact, didn't he shatter the world? Well, he didn't have any -emotional- impact.

Deathwing shattered the world. Who died thanks to it? Who did Deathwing kill? Did he actually kill any character of importance at all, or at the very least a significant amount of soldiers?

What kind of impact did Deathwing -alone- have? You might say that he lead his forces, well no he did not. He never talked to any of his forces. He never talked at all. How to regard Deathwing as an efficient leader when he keeps his troops scattered all across Azeroth and gives orders only in the form of 'BURN, DESTROY, KILL'. It sucks to be you Deathwing, because you barely killed a damn thing.

Did he gather his troops for the Hour of Twilight? Yes, he did. Oh, that's right. NOBODY OF IMPORTANCE DIED. It's acted out as if the whole assault did not do a damn thing. "The Cataclysm is over." says Thrall after Deathwing dies. Allright then, so what's up with all the Old God creatures left in Dragonblight? The Twilight Cult always ran without Deathwing. Elemental lords, did they really ever listen to Deathwing?

To top it all off, Deathwing even failed to kill Alexstrasza in the Twilight Highlands in one on one combat. Deathwing according to all the things he has done in this expansion was a total failure, and never accomplished anything. That is my major concern.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5803602506925287061.post-78446209493970573542012-04-19T10:14:37.847-07:002012-04-19T10:14:37.847-07:00Cataclysm felt very "aimless" to me.

They ended doing only a little of each.

I don't think you need a "Big Bad" at the end of each expansion (it gets old and tired), remember Vanilla.

But if you don't want to have a Big Bad-heavy expansion, then don't design the entire expansion as if that was your goal.

That's what I think Mists is doing well so far. It is an exploration/faction war expansion much like vanilla, Pandaria provides the setting for the conflict, but the story of Pandaria won't progress "in parallel" with the siege of orgrimmar. The story of Pandaria starts and ends with the base xpac. Every patch onwards will be about the faction war.
Therefore you won't have the paradox of having the factions killing each other on one raid and uniting under a single banner in another.El Pibe Progrehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15776461523047559752noreply@blogger.com
